Slayers 2 Open-World Raid Chests
Tier by location, Sealed Cache opens, Spear and Tanto farms, and how raids differ from dungeon portals.
Open-world raid chests are one of the fastest gear and material lanes in launch-week Slayers 2. You find locked chests guarded by tough NPC packs in the overworld, clear the guards (often three fighters plus a hard captain), then open the chest or receive a Sealed Cache to crack from inventory. Chest tier is tied to location, not to a random end-screen roll — pick the wrong region and the weapon you want cannot appear.
This page maps Starter Tier 1, Butterfly Mansion Tier 2 (Spear), and Snow Village Tier 3 (Tanto), explains Sealed Cache flow, and separates raid chests from the forge-gated dungeon portal mode. Cross-check drop goals on the Weapons Guide, cold access on the Yeti Boss page, Corps progression in Final Selection, and loadout ideas in Slayer builds.
How an open-world raid works
- Spot a locked raid chest with hostile NPCs around it.
- Defeat the pack. Creators warn that captains hit hard — bring a Breathing Style, healing, and ideally friends.
- Open the chest on the spot or receive a Sealed Cache item (Tier 1 is commonly described as Sealed Cache T1).
- Open Sealed Caches from inventory after the fight so you do not miss loot on a full ground pile.
- Bank weapons, mats, Wen-adjacent loot, and rare utility drops such as Frozen Heart.
These fights are not the same as walking into a dungeon portal near the blacksmith / Rengoku area. Portal mode has its own unlock quest and level talk (~65 in some creator leveling notes). Read Dungeons when you are ready for that lane so you do not farm the wrong system for a week.
Tier table by location
| Raid location | Chest tier | Headline Slayer weapon |
|---|---|---|
| Starter Village / starter circuits | Tier 1 | No Spear / Tanto — mats, Wen, Sealed Cache farming |
| Butterfly Mansion | Tier 2 | Spear (Epic) |
| Snow Village | Tier 3 | Tanto (Legendary) |
Location decides the loot band. Farming Starter Tier 1 forever will never roll a Snow Village Tanto. Farming Butterfly forever will not substitute for Tier 3 if Tanto is your goal.
Tier 1 — Starter Village circuit
Tier 1 teaches the raid rhythm without demanding mid-game weapons. Expect:
- Sealed Cache T1 style rewards opened from inventory
- Materials and cash-adjacent loot for early shops
- Occasional utility drops (Frozen Heart is chance-based across raid chests — not guaranteed)
Use Tier 1 to practice packing healing, reading captain telegraphs, and leaving inventory space. Do not treat it as your permanent endgame farm. Once Cutlass from Kaiden and a Breathing Style are online (see Getting Started and Weapons), graduate to Butterfly.
Tier 2 — Butterfly Mansion (Spear)
Butterfly Mansion raids award Tier 2 chests. The headline weapon is the Epic Spear. Plan:
- Path through Mistfall → Butterfly using map tools from Lost Pages / mounts.
- Bring a stable Breathing kit — Epic farms punish Fancy-Katana greed.
- Clear the NPC pack cleanly; captain pressure is the usual wipe cause.
- Open every chest / cache; Spear is on the Tier 2 band, not on Starter T1.
Spear skills favor extended strings and can include invulnerability frames on some moves per showcase notes. Equip it properly and confirm weapon skills on the hotbar before you judge the kit in Slayer builds.
Butterfly is also near Corps / Final Selection routing. You can alternate Spear farms with exam prep from Final Selection without crossing the whole map every session.
Tier 3 — Snow Village (Tanto)
Snow Village raids award Tier 3 chests and the Legendary Tanto. This is the deepest open-world raid weapon farm on the current ladder.
Cold gate first: without the Ember Heart Lantern from the Yeti Boss, sustained Snow Village farming is miserable. Sequence matters — Frozen Heart → Yeti → lantern → Tier 3 loops — not “run into snow and hope.”
Tanto plays as a fast assassin / secondary-slot pressure weapon (Phantom Barrage, Spiral Fang, and related moves in showcase coverage). Confirm you are opening Tier 3 chests specifically; leftover Tier 1/2 caches on the same journey will not substitute.
Sealed Cache inventory opens
Launch guides emphasize that Tier 1 (and sometimes other tiers depending on UI wording) can grant a Sealed Cache instead of only a ground chest. Open it from your inventory after combat. Common failure modes:
- Full bags so the cache never lands
- Leaving the server before opening
- Assuming the fight “gave nothing” because the reward is an item, not a sparkle on the chest lid
Always screenshot or note cache tiers if the client labels T1 / T2 / T3 explicitly — that label is your loot band.
Raid chests vs dungeon portals
| System | What it is | Typical goal |
|---|---|---|
| Open-world raid chests | Overworld locked chests + NPC packs | Spear, Tanto, mats, Frozen Heart chances |
| Dungeon portal mode | Separate instance entry after unlock quest | Portal-tier farming once ~mid-level |
Weapons progression copy on this wiki already warns players not to confuse the two. If a creator says “dungeons” while standing on a Butterfly lawn chest, they mean raid chests. If they are at a named portal by the forge, they mean Dungeons.
Frozen Heart and Yeti cross-farm
Raid chests are a primary Frozen Heart farm alongside the Black Merchant (~10k Wen when stocked). Snow-area raid chests are repeatedly cited. Hearts spawn the Yeti; Yeti can drop Ember Heart Lantern for ice uptime. That makes raid farming both a weapon lane and a cold-access lane. Details live on Yeti Boss.
Prep checklist before you pull a captain
- Breathing Style unlocked and practiced (Trainer Locations).
- Healing stocked; dash and block habits warm.
- Inventory space for caches and weapons.
- Correct region for your target tier.
- Ember Heart ready before long Snow Village sessions.
- Build plan from Slayer builds so Spear / Tanto match your Breathing fantasy.
Party vs solo
Creators often recommend friends for raid captains even on accounts that clear Kaiden solo. Solo is fine once your weapon and style are ahead of the pack; wipe-running Tier 3 for an hour is slower than one clean duo clear. Private servers help density control but do not invent Spear drops on Starter chests.
Where to go next
- Weapons — full Cutlass → Spear → Shotgun / Gauntlet / Tanto ladder
- Dungeons — portal mode unlock and farming notes
- Yeti Boss — Frozen Heart and Ember Heart Lantern
- Final Selection — Corps rank beside Butterfly routing
- Slayer builds — how raid weapons fit Breathing kits
Farm the tier that matches the weapon you need, open every Sealed Cache, and keep raid chests mentally separate from dungeon portals. That discipline alone saves most launch-week players a wasted evening.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Where do Tier 2 raid chests drop in Slayers 2?
Butterfly Mansion open-world raids award Tier 2 chests. That is the loot band for the Epic Spear.
Where do I get the Tanto from raid chests?
Tanto is Legendary loot from Tier 3 chests on the Snow Village raid line. Bring Ember Heart Lantern cold immunity for sustained farms.
What is a Sealed Cache?
A Sealed Cache is an inventory reward from some raid clears (commonly called out for Tier 1). Open it from your bag after the fight so you do not miss the loot.
Are raid chests the same as dungeon portals?
No. Raid chests are overworld locked-chest fights. Dungeon portals are a separate unlock near the forge area — see the Dungeons guide.
Can raid chests drop Frozen Hearts?
Yes as a chance drop, including snow-area raids. They are not guaranteed. The Black Merchant can also sell Frozen Heart for about 10,000 Wen when stocked.
