Slayers 2 Breathing Styles Tier List
Eight launch Breathing Styles ranked with honest conflict notes — Thunder is the safe top, Wind / Water / Serpent are not.
Breathing Styles are the Slayer combat identity in Slayers 2. Once you clear the early level and material gates, your trainer choice locks the moveset you will master for dozens of hours. That makes a bad first pick expensive — not because the style is “unplayable,” but because mastery, gourds, and travel time do not refund cleanly when a patch reshuffles the mid-tier.
Launch coverage agrees on eight playable Breathing Styles in the September 18, 2026 client. Sun Breathing and Mist Breathing are the two names players most often assume are live because of the anime; they do not appear in the post-launch rosters we compared, so they are tracked as absent rather than ranked.
Before you hike: skim Clan synergies, compare the Demon-side options on the Blood Demon Arts Tier List, confirm trainer routes on Trainer Locations, and finish the day-one loop in Getting Started.
Launch roster table (consensus notes)
| Breathing Style | Consensus note | Safe to commit? |
|---|---|---|
| Thunder | Top across the outlets that drive this wiki’s “safe pick” rule — fastest gap-close / burst assassin identity (Thunderclap and Flash and friends). | Yes — safest Slayer pick |
| Sound | Stable A (sometimes pushed higher by rhythm / AoE fans). Dual-cleaver pressure, beads, and control tools. | Yes |
| Insect | Stable A wherever it is placed — poison application and close-range shred; shines with Kocho. | Yes |
| Flame | Solid mid/high depending on outlet; heavy stagger and burn identity, longer unlock fantasy. | Situational |
| Wind | Contested — some lists park it in S for launchers and multi-hit pressure; others keep it mid. | Wait or accept variance |
| Water | Contested — some call it the best all-rounder; others keep it as a safe beginner mid pick. | Wait or accept variance |
| Serpent | Contested — whip pressure and guard-break grabs look great on tape; at least one major outlet withheld a full rank at launch. | Wait or accept variance |
| Stone | Bottom band in every serious comparison we used — hyper armor and flail/axe identity, but slow and melee-locked. | Only if you love the fantasy |
Safe picks: Thunder, Sound, Insect
Thunder Breathing — consensus top
If you want one style that survives an argument between creators, take Thunder. Launch-week outlets that emphasize PvP and mixed content keep returning to the same strengths: instant gap-closes, hard-to-react burst, and a kit that converts openings without asking you to win a long neutral every time. It is also the style that pairs cleanly with Agatsuma on the Clans Tier List.
Thunder is not “free wins.” You still need confirm timing and stamina discipline. It is simply the pick with the least disagreement attached.
Sound Breathing — safe A
Sound rewards players who like placed threats, explosive follow-ups, and rhythm-based control. It is technical enough that a bad player will waste beads, but the ceiling stays high in both PvP and grouped PvE. If Thunder feels too linear, Sound is the safest stylish alternative.
Insect Breathing — safe A
Insect is the poison specialist. Outlets that place it agree on A: fast multi-hit pressure that punishes regenerative Demon targets. It is a close-range commitment — if you hate sticking to targets, look elsewhere — but it is not a conflict pick. Kocho is the clan that makes the poison fantasy complete.
Contested band: Wind, Water, Serpent
This is the section launch-week listicles usually flatten. We will not.
Why Wind conflicts
Wind’s official kit language is packed with tap/hold and close/long variants (Dust Whirlwind Cutter, Rising Dust Storm, Idaten Typhoon). Creators who love mobile multi-hit pressure rate it like an S weapon. Creators who punish committed recoveries or who weight raw PvP reactability keep it out of the top band. Both readings can be honest on the same patch.
Why Water conflicts
Water is the forever all-rounder argument. One camp sees Surface Slash, Water Wheel, and Dead Calm as the most complete beginner-to-endgame package. Another camp sees “complete” as “no identity” next to Thunder’s burst or Sound’s bombs. If your goal is forgiving solo progression, Water is still a rational choice — just know some tier lists will never crown it.
Why Serpent conflicts
Serpent’s coiling multi-hits and hold-to-grab guard breaks look oppressive in showcases. Two of the rankings behind our cross-check put it at A or better; at least one withheld a peer ranking until the kit could be judged on equal criteria. That is a data gap, not a secret nerf. If you main Serpent, play it because you like the kit — do not pretend the community already finished the debate.
Stone Breathing — honest bottom
Stone is not useless. Hyper armor and heavy flail/axe pressure can win specific PvP interactions. It is the bottom consensus pick because it is slow, melee-locked, and less flexible when a fight changes distance. Choose Stone for fantasy or for a deliberate brawl build, not because a thumbnail called everything viable.
Not in the launch ranking: Sun and Mist
- Sun Breathing (Hinokami Kagura): Story-famous, absent from the eight-name launch rosters we compared. Do not spend resources planning a Sun route until a patch actually ships it.
- Mist Breathing: Same story — tracked for franchise completeness, not ranked as playable launch content.
If a future update adds either style, it graduates onto this table instead of living in rumor footnotes.
Practical unlock advice (without spoiling every coordinate)
Trainers gate styles behind level, currency, and Demon Horn / Beast Core style materials. Exact yen figures already conflict between early-access and post-launch runs, so budget the horn farm first and re-check prices in the live client. Full routes belong on Trainer Locations; the beginner sequence belongs on Getting Started.
After unlock, mastery is a real second currency — butterfly-estate style grinding and gourd spending can eat hundreds of thousands of Wen to cap a tree. Pick a style you will actually press buttons with.
Building around a style
- Confirm the clan on the Clans Tier List (Agatsuma for Thunder, Kocho for Insect, Tomioka / Urokodaki / Sabito for Water, Shinazugawa for Wind).
- If you might flip to Demon later, skim Blood Demon Arts so you understand the other half of the meta.
- Return to the Tier List Hub after patches — Breathing is the least settled of the three big lists precisely because Wind / Water / Serpent still fight.
Safe summary: Thunder first if you want consensus, Sound or Insect if you want a stable A main, and treat Wind / Water / Serpent as taste picks until outlets stop disagreeing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is the best Breathing Style in Slayers 2?
Thunder is the strongest cross-outlet consensus pick at launch for aggressive PvP and flexible mixed content. Sound and Insect are the safest A-tier alternatives.
Are Sun Breathing and Mist Breathing in Slayers 2 at launch?
No. Post-launch rosters agree on eight styles; Sun and Mist are not among them. Track them as future content until a patch adds them.
Why do Wind, Water, and Serpent rankings disagree?
Creators weight different things: Wind's variant pressure, Water's all-rounder toolkit, and Serpent's grab tools impress some outlets and look unfinished or mid to others. We mark them contested instead of forcing one letter.
Is Stone Breathing bad in Slayers 2?
Stone is the consensus bottom launch style — slow and melee-locked — but hyper armor still has niches. Play it for the fantasy, not because it is a meta shortcut.
